Then Arena.net should let us choose between directX8 and DirectX9.
I don't like "upgrades" that are actually "downgrades".

Agree, they need a manual option to switch the render engine.
I would let them know (in support) and point to this thread.

I know some DX9 games can be forced into rendering with DX8 via a shortcut extension. Is there not a shortcut extension that can be used to force GW to use DX8?

Check the Intel Video card sticky thread, there is a program that override the pixel / shader stuff, there may be an option to "trick" it.
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=35043
I can't check this out at the moment, otherwise I would mess around with this.
It still needs an option or change it so if it detects an Geforce 4 card, to switch to DX 8 vs DX 9 as a default.

GF4 series cards are only DX7 cards, so you're not going to see any difference between running DX8 or DX9.
For an FX (DX8 card) you might see a couple more frames DX8, but that's all.

FX (Geforce 5) was DX 8/9 but how they implemented 9 was a bit ... off ...

Maybe it would be a good idea to read the thread before posting in it.
With directX8 and Geforce 4 : anti aliasing
With directX9 and Geforce 4 : no more anti aliasing
To me it is actually a big difference.

DirectX8 compatibility started with the Geforce 3, actually.
Now, any Nvidia card with the letters "MX" is actually a rebadged Geforce 2, which is, yes, DX7 at heart. MX cards are not fully DX8 compliant, just like FX cards weren't fully DX9 compliant. There was a mighty stink a few years ago about how these Geforce "4's" were slower than Geforce 3's in pretty much everything. And nothing has changed...

... I ran DX9 with 4x anti-aliasing in GW before this update.
All this GW update did for me was disable to option for me to run all anti-aliasing.
Or, someone would like to tell me that I fried my chip.

I think I have an idea - in the Nvidia Driver can't you override a game by setting a profile up for the game.
Disapy -> Geforce X Tab -> Performance & Quality Settings
Make a profile or change the global settings.

Nah, your GPU is fine. The consensus from reading this thread is that an update disabled AA on all video cards that aren't DX9 compliant. You should probably send up a bug report about it.
Being a DX9 card and being a card that works with DX9 installed are not the same thing. When I upgraded my friend's computer from a Ti4800 to a 9700Pro, she marvelled at how much better the Sims2 looked, as far as more details and effects. If you have a DX9 compliant card, then DX9 exclusive effects will be rendered, otherwise you just won't see them, but the game will still run. In other words, rendering will scale back to the compliance level of your video card. If you were chugging along on a DX7 class card (ugh), then neither the new DX9 features nor the legacy DX8 features would be rendered, and while your card would hypothetically work, the game would look rather ugly.
Far Cry was a DX9 game, but scaled back as necessary for older video cards. And antialiasing WAS allowed, so I'm thinking that this is a bug that should be escalated up to GW support. I'm not too concerned about Quincunx (3x) mising, but I feel for you guys who suddenly can't have any AA at all.

This definately sucks. I want my AA back and I want it now. Resolution and geometry only do so much but once you start moving those edges start to glare at you.

I have a Geforce 5700 Ultra (128mb) using the 84.21 driver and I do have the option for 2x,4x AA (only options).
May want to get NVTray (unofficial 3rd party) tweaking utility. It allows you to easy change setting (including Forced AA) from an icon near the system clock. http://nvtweak.laptopvideo2go.com/

Then get a directx9 card, not one that tries to run games at directx9 when it is actually a dx8/7 card. When you buy a card you should ask if it is directx9 or if it just has directx9 bundled with it.
I am not at all supprised you cant enable anti aliasing because it would most likely fry your gpu. Your card is already working hard enough to render games in directx9 when it isnt its native directx version.

It defaults back to DX8 rendering for the Geforce 4 series cards (not running in dx9). If the min requirements for GW says DX 8 video card, DX 9 Recommended.
A new card does solve a lot of issue but some people can't afford new video cards.

Opps need to correct myself, it switching to DX 9 for use with the Geforce 4 cards where DX 8 would work much better (and gw engine can do it for the looks of it).

I have thought of that option, but I decided that if everytime I go into PvP and want to lower my AA, it would be ridiculous.
=========================
Matthewthegreat, I am sorry. None of your suggestion help any bit, all you did were repeating the same thing across 3-5 posts.
=========================
What I really felt about this is, the update was BS. My geforce 4 ran better than any FX card out there previously, and I was happy that my card wasn't one of the FX. But now, their update had only cripple me, which is completely unfair and uncall for. I should have been running 4xAA and highest quality in everything if it wasn't for the update. Too bad all my screenshot for the FPE going to look ugly.
=========================
I had already send a report to NCsoft GW support last thursday. I did get some decent replies.
=========================
I wouldn't have made any complain if my card sux in GW to start with. Such as, I didn't complain that my other PC use FX card, I only regret I got FX card.
